Our History

Christmas day, 1998, six year old Ellen Atkinson opened up a present from her grandfather.  Inside the envelope was a gift certificate for four riding lessons at Chrislar Farm in Rowley, MA.  Her first riding lesson was on "Bri" and she was hooked.  Competing on the local circuit from 2000-2005, Her riding instructor, Jaime, finally got her a chance to show at the big shows in 2006.  She showed at Greater Manchester and Maine Morgan aboard CCE Wing Commandore, a lesson horse and was offered to show a young 4 year old gelding at New York Morgan that fall, for the McDermotts.  Ellen's parents made the leap to lease her a show horse shortly after, and Primera Danger-field, "Rodney", came home from the Morgan Auction that November.

Rodney and Ellen enjoyed much success in the 14-17 Pleasure and Equitation divisions as well as Youth all the way to Oklahoma.  Following the 2010 show season her trainer, Chris, approached Ellen, who was now 18, with an idea.  Sell Rodney on to a well deserving Junior Exhibitor in the barn and finally purchase a horse of her own for the Youth and Amateur Divisions.  Along came "Annie".

Most people after falling off on a trial ride would pass, nope.  Annie came home on the trailer that same evening.  Annie was a challenge and really taught Ellen more than she could ever have imagined. Through the trials and tribulations of five years of showing Annie is now happily a homebody teaching driving lessons and has a 2017 Filly added to her resume.

From 2011 on Chris approached Ellen with various project horses to work with and show, adding to her training and show experience.  Including Oakrun New York's Dark Nite, Pondview Aurora - who is now part of the FMS family, Iron Forge Varsity Blues, Commotion's Legally Blonde, HUR's Zsadist, Claim to Fame, Ledgefield's Leonidas and many others.

In 2016, with the first FMS foal on the way Ellen moved her horses to a small facility in Middleton, Ma. to start her own business, and started looking for a property to buy.  By the time Full Moon Stables was purchased in March of 2018, our herd had grown to four with another due in May!  The new property has a ton of potential and we are continually chipping away at making it a facility we can be proud of!
